"Rockin'
The Wall" - a new film!
Bringing
down the wall.
Smashing
the curtain.
Rock
n' Roll as a force of liberation.
"Rockin'
the Wall is the compelling story of rock and roll's part in bringing
down the Berlin Wall and smashing the Iron Curtain. Told from the
perspective of rockers who played at the time, on both sides of the
Wall, and from survivors of the communist regimes who recalled the
lifeline that rock music provided them, Rockin' the Wall features new
interviews and several original songs written exclusively for the film.
The
message that emerges is that music is a force of liberation, and in
a society like America's, where it was seldom (if ever) truly
suppressed, music failed to ignite a social revolution. But behind
the Iron Curtain, where the mere act of expressing one's
individuality constituted a potential act of revolution, music
provided the key thread upon which the anti-communist struggle gained ground." |

October 1, 2011
- South Florida is still reeling from losing one of its most
celebrated residents, saxophonist Clarence Clemons, earlier this
year. "The Big Man" passed away June 18 at age 69 following
complications from a stroke and left a charitable void in the music
community nationally and locally. So some of his famous friends
picked up his fundraising efforts for HomeSafe, a charity that
assists abused children in Palm Beach County.
On October 1, the
"Classic Rock & Roll Party: A Tribute to Clarence
Clemons" took over Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino with a
bevy of classic-rock musicians. Clarence's nephew Jake Clemons, who
is a gifted saxophonist in his own right, lead the evening's house
band, Temple of Soul, and there was an abundance of guest vocalists
to carry the mantle of the Big Man's legacy. Among them: the Monkees'
Davy Jones, Mark Stein (Vanilla Fudge), Gary U.S. Bonds, American
Idol contestant Brett Loewenstern, and Clemons' former band mate J.T.
Bowen. Drummers Alan White (Yes), and Bobby Blotzer (Ratt) are also
took part for a successful sold out crowd Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain
was the emcee for the evening, and Clarence's widow, Victoria Clemons
gave an emotional personal tribute as well.

Rolling
Stone Magazine awards Box Of Fudge...
Four
Stars!!! * *
* *
"Heavy
starts here. There was nothing, even in 1967, like the 10-ton shock
of this Long Island quartet's cover of the Supreme's You Keep Me
Hanging On, with the lava-flow sustain of Mark Stein's Hammond organ
and Carmine Appice's rapid-cannon-fire drum fills. That hit treatment
became, as these four CDs show, a blueprint for almost everything the
group played. But the Fudge combined their flashy melodrama with
great taste in songwriters (the Zombies, Donovan, Lee Hazlewood) and
bar-band brawn, the last in full effect on the two discs of live
recordings from 1969 at the Fillmore west." - D.F. / Rolling Stone |
